Resembling a standard-size kiwi, but more like a kumquat in scale, this perennial vine is native to Japan, Korea, Northern China, and far-east Russia. And, just like their big fuzzy cousin, kiwi berries have a sweet, juicy green flesh with small black seeds. The smooth, fuzz-free skin ranges in color from an overall bright green to green with a ruddy blush and is entirely edible, making them an easy bite-size snack on the go. Once the fruit gives slightly to a gentle squeeze, it’s time to enjoy!
Perfectly happy to be stored at room temperature, their shelf-life can be extended by storing them in the fridge once they’ve ripened. Smoothie fans can also pop ripe kiwi berries into the freezer to add a nutrient-dense punch to their favorite blended beverage.
