Live-cultured pickles fermented in oak barrels with turmeric root.

Made with turmeric root, coriander, mustard seed, and sweet onion, Britt’s I.P.O (initial pickle offering), delivers a unique flavor and crunch. Rather than cooking the cucumbers in vinegar, Britt’s Pickles are handmade on Whidbey Island using the age-old method of oak barrel fermentation. This produces a pickle like no other. Go ahead and try to eat just one!

P.S. Don’t forget to use the I.P.O pickle brine. Try it as a tenderizing marinade or tangy vinaigrette.

Interesting flavor, but not for me

I have to say I’m not a big fan of these pickles. I can tell these are supposed to be more of a higher quality item, which I’m usually down for, however I think I’m just more of a basic pickle lover with the usual dill and garlic brine. There is something in this brine that over powers all the flavors, I can’t tell what it is, but I know I didn’t love it. When you open the bag, you can see shreds and chunks of turmeric, onion and other spices which can be used to flavor other dishes as well, I haven’t made it under the brine, but it looks like there may be 3-4 large whole pickles. I think these are great for anyone loves the flavors that the brine is made of, just read the ingredients to decide if these are for you. I will say that even though I didn’t love them, it’s always fun to try something new that Smith Brothers has!

Couldn't even finish one pickle.....the smell and taste was horrible.  Was hoping to support a small business venture but will not be reordering these EVER.

Terrible pickles

I generally really like pickles but this style is not for me. They have a pungent sour taste.

Awesome Pickles

These are probably the best pickles I've ever had in my life.  Yes, I used to walk all the way downtown to Canal, to get my pickles from Gus' barrel.  Around here, I've survived on Sonoma Brinery dills.  When most stores stopped carrying them I had no idea what I was gonna do for my pickle fix.  Just completely delighted that they are being replaced by something that is even better.

Best Pickles EVER!!!!---

I grew up in PA and we have GREAT food on the East Coast. I remember as a kid going down the street on the corner to an old delicatessen (Conrads) and they had about a dozen oak barrels with different kinds of pickles.  You would pick out your pickle and they would wrap it in paper and off we kids would go eating pickles and walking down the steet happy as clams. lol Thank you Smith Brothers and Britts for bring back my PA childhood memories and making one of the best TRUE pickles I've had in WA . Ps These are real pickles not the crap you get in a jar, over cooked and full of garbage.

Excellent!

I just had my first bite and they taste just like I fermented them myself!  Delicious!  A good amount of garlic just like I like them.  To me they’re worth the price.  I always ferment veggies myself but due to my age and bad hands, it’s easier on me not to do it.  I will buy these again!

#1 worst pickle

These are even worse than the Peace Pickles.  Did you leave the blossom ends on?  Did you use something other than white onions?  Salty and very squishy.  The onions and mustard seed on their own aren't bad, but the pickled cucumbers were not good at all.

Just No.

I love pickles of all kind... I thought... until this one. I understand these are fermented and not pickled, and I'm good with fermented foods. I think the problem is the spices. Too much coriander and mustard, and to me takes a little plastic-y on top of the odd and overpowering spice flavor. All around, it's a hard no from me and my family.

Disgusting!

Thought these would be a nice surprise for my picking loving husband. We each took one bite and then threw the bag in the garbage. Worsr Pickle we've ever had.

Picklelicious!

These are FULL of flavor! Tartness is paired well with the onions and spices. Each bite I could taste the whole combination of flavors. If you are a fan of sweet pickles, this is not for you! If you're a fan of delicious flavor, you won't regret buying these.

Yum

These pickles are great and taste fresh. Love the flavors, especially the garlic. The pickles were crunchy, great to snack on or add in cooking. So much better than jarred store bought pickles, those just taste fake now.

Definitely not for my family

No one could finish a bite. We can usually get past a strong smell or a powerful flavor...but for both of those things to accompany a soft soggy pickle. It's not for us.

Best pickle EVER!

I grew up with a family that came from Europe. Making pickles at home was one of my fondest memories. My grandfather made them from scratch. We always had them in the fridge. Although my husband and I eat pickles on a regular basis, these are extraordinary. We not only ate the pickles and the vegetables but also the juice. These are especially unique, but if you are looking for a more conventional pickle, the Peace pickle might be better. We have tried both. Both types have a delicious “snap.”  Keep up the good work on these pickles. You will always have a customer in us.

Just an FYI.  I still love these!  They taste like my own home fermented pickles.  For those who don’t like them, you can’t compare them to store bought processed pickles. They are not the same in any way.  These are tart from fermenting, not from vinegar.  These are healthy and chock full of living probiotics, I’m on my third quart.  Naturally fermented foods are like medicine to your gut.  Try them and realize what you are putting into your body.
