Drink Pink: Fueling Breast Cancer Research at Fred Hutch

Smith Brothers Farms Drink Pink Campaign Benefiting Fred Hutch

Strawberry milk season is upon us, and we’re kicking off another year of our Drink Pink campaign.

For every quart of strawberry milk sold in May, we will donate $1 to help fund breast cancer research and to support the Family Assistance Fund at Fred Hutch.

Cancer has unfortunately impacted many of our lives, and Fred Hutch is doing remarkable work to help our friends and families in the community. It’s especially near and dear to us as the Smith family matriarch passed away from breast cancer thirty years ago. We started and continue to do this campaign in honor of her, our employees and customers, and their families who have been affected by cancer.

The donations made through the Drink Pink campaign support leading breast cancer research at Fred Hutch.

Positive news on triple-negative cancer

Hutch researcher Dr. Christopher Li’s team identifies factors that women can control, such as diet and exercise, to lower their cancer risk and support recovery. The team is especially interested in interventions for triple-negative breast cancer, an aggressive form that disproportionately impacts women who are young, African American, and/or Hispanic/Latina. They are also working to better understand health disparities and risk to help women and their doctors make treatment and prevention decisions.

Helping women thrive after cancer

More than 3.8 million people in the United States are in remission from breast cancer and returning to their lives and goals. Healthy changes in diet, physical activity, and weight management can help them thrive and prevent relapse — but maintaining these habits can be challenging. Fred Hutch’s Dr. Heather Greenlee is partnering with women in communities that have historically had a higher risk of reoccurrence, especially Latinas, to help them integrate changes into their lives in ways that work for them.

Not only will your support go toward funding breast cancer research, but the Family Assistance Fund as well. This fund helps qualifying patients and their families with non-medical, everyday expenses such as grocery money, diapers, child-care costs, or long-distance phone bills. This assistance provides the resources families need to find a measure of comfort and stability while navigating their cancer treatments.

In addition to purchasing strawberry milk, you can contribute to the campaign online by making a monetary donation on our online giving platform.

Thanks to you (and your love of strawberry milk), our contribution to Fred Hutch has increased each year. We hope to continue doing that, but we need your help.

Join us and Drink Pink all month long to help fuel breast cancer research at Fred Hutch. Together, we are taking action to improve and save lives. Thank you for your support!
